How do Okonkwo’s actions with regard to the boys show that he wants to establish himself as different from his own father?

Okonkwo is paranoid of having any connection with his father. Any perceived "weakness" in boys causes Okonkwo to react violently. Okonkwo's insecurities over masculinity inflicts much pain on both his boys. Ironically, he kills the masculine Ikemefuna and drives Nwoye to the Christian church. Nwoye becomes stronger there.
