Things Fall Apart
How do you think Okonkwo’s son Nwoye will grow up?
- How do you think Okonkwo’s son Nwoye will grow up?
Nwoye will most likely end up living just as Okonkwo's father had. His father was a lazy musician who people liked but who left nothing for his family when he died. Nwoye will most likely end of this way due to the way that his father raised him. His father Okonkwo was appalled by his father and his lack of effort in life, and has strived for the opposite, in a dangerous way. Okonkwo is completely focused on work and success in the village, ignoring all other virtues that are around him. He treats Nwoye with no mercy or grace, attempting to beat him into the kind of man that Okonkwo is. Nwoye hates this, and at the first oppurtunity, abandons his father. Nwoye joins the missionaries and rejects his father and his teaching, which he will most likely continue to do for the rest of his life, focusing on the relationships in life instead of the work.
