Okonkwo refuses to be seen as the man he's ashamed of, but a man's worth is not what he is judged by, therefore Okonkwo's main goal is that of achievement. Achievement will gain him respect, and he has achieved many things; he'd gained fame as a wrestler, was a wealthy farmer, had three wives, two titles, and known as a great warrior. He was determined to be respected, to be more than his father who he saw as worthless.
