Okonkwo makes extremely rash decisions, which lead to his downfall. He does not think before acting, and his refusal to even attempt to adapt to the changes in his community leave him isolated and angry. Okonkwo is a proud man, but unfortunately he puts his own desires for success above all else. This is the cause of the alienation he feels and even his violent actions. Throughout his life, Okonkwo does everything he can to NOT be like his father, and in the end, he dies penniless and without title, exactly like him.
