The Commissioner is your quintessential colonial authority figure. He feels that he is an expert in the management of tribes. The DC views them as charactertures or animals. He has titled a book called "The Pacification of the Primitive Tribes of the Lower Niger". The title is dehumanizing and, unfortunately, this is his basic attitude towards the population. When Okonkwo commits suicide, "Obierika says bitterly to the DC that Okonkwo was one of the greatest men of Umuofia. Because of the white man, he has been driven to suicide and will be buried like an animal “The DC does no concept of the tragedy. Instead he finds it curious, like a keen observation of a pack of animals. He decides to include it in his book.
