Things fall apart

One of the most important themes in the book is the difference between change and tradition. Okonkwo represents the change; he wants to vary from the tradition that his father set of being lazy and unsuccessful. His work ethic and his ability to try to be different from his father is one of the important examples of changing from tradition to a new future.
