There was a time when most missionaries did not speak the native language of the peoples they sought to convert. Then there's the translator, his use of the language is not perfect, although the tribe receognizes that he is native to the area. The entire scene where the missionary and translator forst appear on the scene is filled with humor that would not have been included had they been fluent.
