Why does Okonkwo decide to participate in Ikemefuna’s murder? What clues suggest that Okonkwo has made a mistake?

Okonkwo is paranoid of looking weak. Even though Okonkwo loves Ikemefuna , he thinks more highly of him than of his own son, Okonkwo wants to carry through with what the sacred oracle says because he wants to appear strong to others.
