why is okonkwo so proud?

Okonkwo's pride comes from his achievements in his life that are superior to those of his father. He is a fine example of the culture of which he is proud and of which he is a part. He abides by the rules of that culture, and has always been able to provide for his family. He has much reason to be proud.
