Why was old saxton shocked by the narrator's behavior?

I see no refernce to an "old saxton" in the novel, "Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)."

There is. When Harris is adamant about seeing the skulls and Jim does not want to. He was standing outside the area and the old saxton turns up and wishes to take Jim to see the skulls. Jim does not want to and refuses. He says he is better off to stand there rather than going down there. The saxton find his behaviour weird because he thought that a man on a holiday ought to see these treasures and enjoy himself.
