Man spits into the air but it turns to ice before it hits the ground. This is the man's first warning from nature that it's way too cold to travel.

Dog lags behind the man. The Dog understands nature's cues but the man doesn't.

The man freezes to death at the end of the story because he didn't respect the harshness of the natural world.
