Which images from the story do you find the most vivid and memorable?

I find the image of the man trying to light all his matches at one time near the end of the story most memorable. His pathetic attempt to light one last fire illustrates the man's fragility in nature. This is his last desperate attempt to survive. His hubris lead him to this moment. He had not heeded nature's warnings and now he cannot use his fingers.
