Why do you think that the man in Jack London's short story " To Build a Fire", despite being bold, intelligent and adventurous lost the battle against the nature?

This question calls for your opinion. There is no right or wrong answer. London portrays nature as the majestic, unpredictable force it is. Nature cannot be controlled, and as a result, man wages a losing battle in believing he can conquer it. The man is smart and intelligent, but he is also inexperienced, unprepared, and proud.... he refuses to listen to advice, and he believes that "knowledge" has prepared him for things that can only be understood through experience.
