Jem and Scout have a run in with Mrs. Dubose, who maligns their father for defending Tom Robinson. Jem, in his anger, returns and destroys her flowers.
Atticus teaches Jem a lesson in respect and self-control, making him go back to Mrs. Dubose's home and apologize in person.
