Outside the courthouse the town is busy. Scout mentions it is sort of "carnival" like were it not for the circumstances behind the sudden popularity of Maycomb. Many people from outside the county are in attendance.Scout also notes the attendance of Dolphus Raymond with his paper bag and bottle of Coke inside. Inside the courtroom, the crowd is separated. The Blacks are put on the balcony (which is much hotter) and the whites enjoy the main floor. The room is packed. Scout and Jem sit with Rev. Sykes in the black section.
