Although Jem is staring at Walter pour molasses and proceeds t all over his meat and vegetables, he doesn't say anything. Scout, being the precocious girl she is, asks him what he's doing. I think this is the only difference between how the two children treat Walter. Scout verbalizes what Jem is thinking. Scout gets a talking to by Calpurnia.
