Initially, when he first gets it, Atticus doesn't think he would win. By chapter 9 and 10 Atticus felt they had a chance. The evidence was so overwhelming and Bob Ewell so transparentlt guilty, Atticus felt that just maybe the white jury might do the right thing. Sadly he was wrong.
