does jem still fear the gifts in the tree give reason

I don't think Jem fears the gifts. He wants to wait two days before he thinks they are not meant for someone else. He initially fears the gum maybe poisoned but Scout isn't harmed by it. When they find the carved soap figures, they know the gifts are for them.
