How did Scout manage to deescalate the scene at the Jailhouse?

Scout appealed to the humanity in mr. Cunningham. She subtly reminds him that her father has done favours for him and his son was a classmate and guest at her house. Her appeal was couched in the innocence of a child which Mr. Cunningham could not ignore.
