how do you know scout is white?

Scout refers to blacks as "negros" for one thing. They have a black housekeeper. It's pretty much a given in the story.

Scout's ancestor is named as Simon Finch, a southern landowner (Finch's Landing), who owned slaves and farmed cotton. It is also noted that he would have disapproved of the Civil War and his family being of everything but their land. Not to mention that her father Atticus is under fire from the rest of the community for his defense of a black man.
