how does Atticus feel about his own method of cross examining Mayella?

Atticus is quite gentle with Mayella. He treats her with dignity which Mayella takes for being mocked. Still, Atticus knows Mayella is a victim who is being manipulated in the worst way by her father Bob Ewell.
