To Kill a Mockingbird reflects the Great Depression in the 1930s, and the race relations in the South during that period. Lee portrays racial injustice and prejudice that she saw first hand as a child. She also intersperses her feelings on Civil Rights, something that was making history at the time she wrote the novel.
