How is the significance of Calpurnia's description of learning to read? How does this affect Scout?

Most of the people in Calpurnia's church could not read. Scout and Jem are shocked to see just how educated Calpurnia is during a time when few blacks attended school. Calpurnia was taught by Miss Maudie’s aunt.
