Many of the characters are based on peope whe actually knew.

Atticus is lawyer and harper lee dad is also a lawyer. I read in other sources that she have four brothers but it they didn't mention there names except for edwin and i can say thats from where she based Jem.

I've also read that when Harper Lee was in college, she wrote a story about a girl who is upset when a black man is hanged.
