Why does Atticus defend Tom?
Really Atticus says it is the right thing to do. He says that if he refused to defend Tom, he could never tell Scout or Jem to do anything again. Tom was obviously innocent and deserved good representation.
Cool
Tom was innocent, so he died anyway.
