Dill's parents ignore him. Dill's mother has divorced (really a rare thing at the time) and Dill refers to his stepdad as his "new dad". Unfortunately his new dad and old mom pay very little attention to him. They buy him things but just leave him in his room to play. This is why Dill pretty much walks to Maycomb near the end of the novel.
