Miss Rachel lives next door to the Finch family, and her nephew, Dill, comes to stay with her every summer and becomes close friends with the Finch kids.
She's sympathetic
Miss Rachel is a Haverford, "in Maycomb County a name synonymous with jackass."

Miss Rachel does not really approve of Atticus defending Tom Robinson. Dill talks to Jem and Scout about the trial and what his Aunt Rachel thought about it. He said she said, “if a man like Atticus Finch wants to butt his head against a stone wall, it’s his head”. This shows how Rachel just thinks that Atticus is just getting into more trouble by WANTING to defend a black man.
We can see that some of her physical appearances are that she is white, she's around 50 years old and she's a dog person.
“Miss Rachel’s old and so are you and Atticus.” “I don’t call fifty very old,” This shows that Miss Rachel is about as old as Miss Maudie, who Scout is talking to. This tells the reader how old Miss Rachel is.
“Miss Rachel’s rat terrier was expecting” Through this we know that Miss Rachel is a dog person. We know this because times were tough already for her so to purchase food for her dog also would be another hardship that many couldn’t afford. This tells us that Miss Rachel might usually have dog hair on her because of her dog.
