On page 99, chapter 9, Scout went to get a drink of water and heard Atticus and Uncle Jack talking. Why did Uncle Jack say, "I shall never marry Atticus"? What was Atticus's response?

Uncle Jack feels a little embarrassed for reprimanding Scout over the Cousin Francis incident before he heard her side of the story. Uncle John says that he will never marry. Perhaps he feels too old to marry. He says that he might have children and Atticus replies , "You've a lot to learn, Jack."

Uncle Jack feels humiliated that he let an eight year old tell him that he doesn't understand children, so he feels a bit humiliated.
