Reverend Sykes has second thoughts about allowing the children to stay and listen to the graphic testimony, but ultimately regents to Jem and allows them to stay. Why doesn't Rev. Sykes force them to leave?

I think that Reverend Sykes felt that Scout and Jem had a right to hear their father stand up for what is right. They needed to witness how special and brave their father is.
