If you are taliking about the hole in the tree the children found, its a hole where someone ( Mr. Radley ) is collecting very valuable stuff, such as Indian Heads and chewing gum. After the children take the collectives fter x amount of days, Mr. Radley covers the hole with cement, claiming the trees sick, but its actually because he doesn't want the children to steal the stuff after recieving the note the chlidren put before thanking the collector.
