Tom's Innocence

Of what is Tom Robinson accused? What evidence is given that proves he is actually, categorically innocent of the crime? How does this conviction relate the theme of injustice?

Tom Robinson is accused of raping Mayella Ewing. Evidence is put forth that Mayella's beating came from someone who hit her with his left hand. Tom's left hand was useless. This conviction illustrates the theme of injustice because Tom could not have assaulted Mayella. He is convicted simply because it is a white woman's/ white man's word over a black man's word.
