What could be Lee's motivation for having Miss Caroline come from another county rather than from Maycomb?

Miss Caroline is proud of where she is from, and she has no problem conveying that fact to the people of Maycomb. She's not only a newcomer to town, but a condescending scalawag (southerner who supported Union policies) to boot. Miss Caroline is outside the box, and her opinions tend to make things interesting.
