What does Jem mean about Attics being a gentleman like him? What change does this illustrate about Jem?

In Chapter Ten, Jem realizes that his father is more then he'd ever imagined him to be. He finally sees Atticus for what he really is; a good, respectful, humble man; a gentleman. This change illustrates Jem's budding maturity.
