What is the author's purpose for adding the fire in the chapter?

Was the purpose to get Boo Radley out? I'm not sure,this one stumped me.

This does shed some light on Boo Radley as being a benevolent care taker of the kids. I think it is also meant to highlight what kind of person Miss. Maudi is. Like Atticus, Miss Maudie values other attributes more than material possessions. As for her house Miss Maudie says that she "always wanted a smaller house" so she could have a larger garden.
