Walter is pretty precious. He comes from a poor family, but his family has honor and self respect..... some people don't understand this (namely the teacher). His behavior at lunch is a perfect example of hinor and self respect, he doesn't have a lunch because his family has no food; his teacher offers him money that he wouldn't be able to pay back and he refuses.
