Atticus is a good father, a considerate man, and a generous man.

"Jem and I found our father satisfactory: he played with us, read to us, and treated us with courteous detachment."

"But there came a day when Atticus told us he’d wear us out if we made any noise in the yard and commissioned Calpurnia to serve in his absence if she heard a sound out of us. Mr. Radley was dying."

"...before Mr. Cunningham left he said, “Mr. Finch, I don’t know when I’ll ever be able to pay you.”
“Let that be the least of your worries, Walter,” Atticus said.
