What reasons does Miss Maudie give Jem for being optimistic about Tom Robinson’s trial? Who were other people , in some small way, tried to help Tom Robinson?

Miss Maudie tells Jem that “things are never as bad as they seem.” Then she names the people who'd gone out of their way to try and help Tom, namely; Judge Taylor, Atticus, and the people of the black community.
