Most people in Maycomb are Christian and belong to a church. The church is the focal point of the community. Atticus differs from most white Christians in the community. His enlightened views on human nature and the folly of bigotry are not generally shared by others. It is never stated how much of a Christian Atticus is but he would have attended church.
