When Boo asks Scout to take him home, she put "my foot on the step and stopped. I would lead him through our house, but I would never lead him home." Why does she think this? What does this really mean?

I think that although Scout has a new understanding and appreciation for Boo, she can never really be a part of his life. She can't make that step into his home. Boo cannot handle that kind of social interaction. I don't think the town could handle it either.
