When Scout and hem take Walter Cunningham home to lunch, she says that " Walter had forgotten he was a Cunningham ." What did she mean by this?

Walter would initially believe the invitation as a hand out and would not have accepted. None-the-less, he senses Jem's friendship and takes him up on the offer...... forgetting he'd be expected to decline.
