Jessie is Miss Dubose's daughter I believe. Miss Dubose is a sick, ill old woman. She told Jem that everyday after school that Jem will read to her for an hour. Jem reacted to this effectively because he doesn't want to read to an old lady who is morphine addictation. Oh, I forgot to mention...Miss Dubose is taking medications. Miss Dubose dies a second after the last month of Jem reading to poor Miss Dubose.
