Who won the trial?

The prosecution won the trial. Tom Robinson was convicted.

After losing the trial, Tom Robinson tries to escape from jail, but is shot and killed. It later comes to attention that the guards were purposly trying to kill him, not just stop him. Also during the trial it is discovered, that Tom did not commit the crime, yet he was still accused of raping Mayella. He could not have committed the crime because Mayella was hit in the face with a left arm, and Tom's left arm is crippled with very little use left in it, his arm has been this way since he was a little boy. They knew Tom could not have done it yet he was still charged with sexual abuse, and physical assualt.
