Explain how lack of trust had helped bring Cole to the life or death situation he was in.

Cole's lack of trust eventually brings him to this island and face to face with the Spirit Bear: it is as if his Spirit Bear was waiting for him all his life. Cole doesn't even trust his Spirit Bear-instead he is aggressive. Cole is mauled to within an inch of his life. Ironically this sparks the beginnings of change in Cole.
