Explain the importance of meeting Cole, and Touching Spirit Bear in the novel Touching Spirit Bear?

Cole is the protagonist of the story so it is important that we meet him. The Spirit Bear comes along later, he becomes a sort of turning point for Cole in his journey for redemption.
