Then a lightening bolt hit and turned them into monsters. They all laughed at Cole calling him "a baby faced con." The monsters are a metaphor of Cole's own selfishness. He manipulates people to get what he wants: monsters personify his self-centeredness. Rosie means that Cole must take responsibility for his own actions and emotions to vanquish the monsters.
