Is there such thing as a "typical" young person who commits crime? If so, does Cole fit in these characteristics? Why or why not?

I don't think there is typical offender. One of the motifs of this book is that, although a crime may look typical, there is a unique story behind the people involved. Cole is an individual. He may fit the stereotype thug on the surface but there is a person underneath. The story explores the person Cole really is, a person who is struggling to get out of the anger and pain.
