how does the book end?

Cole first encounters the "spirit bear" early in the book. Then the rest of the book happens. The end has Cole and Peter (the guy who Cole beat up) going to soak in the freezing pond. It's kind of like a hot tub except it's freezing. Peter attacks Cole. Apparently this is Peter's version of therapy for all his pent up aggression towards Peter. Cole lets Peter attack him. This is Cole's version of finally taking ownership of his past. They both embrace and then see the Spirit Bear. This is a catharsis for both boys.
