Why does Cole not fight back?

Cole knows that fighting, even to protect himself (in this case), is no longer the answer. Cole has let go of his anger. His old reaction would have been to fight back but now he does not. THere is also a sense of penance that he owes Peter this. Peter feels he needs to do this and Cole is willing to oblige.
