Why does coles bad attitude return at the camp? What does this say about coles promise to change?

Chapter 19 involves Cole's second trip to the island. Although Cole doesn't like taking orders from Edwin and Garvey (as well as serving them) I would say he actually does begin to change. The fact that Cole wanted to go back and sold all his worldly possessions (including his motorbike) to get another chance. Cole doesn't like the cold and his conditions which might point to a bad attitude but he does go through a significant change by this point in the novel.

Also, although Cole gets angry with his directions, he knows how to deal with his anger this time around.
