Manus

Manus represents Said’s first stage of Nationalism. He character portrays a young Irish man who is lamed both literally and figuratively by his rage against the British officers and their culture.

In the second part of the question, are you referring to Manus' relationship with his father? Manus shows his father great respect, evident in the fact that when a teaching post becomes available, Manus doesn't apply even though he's well qualified because it would be goind against his father's wishes. This angers the other people in his life, but he first and foremost respects the wishes of his father.
